About Rederick.art

Welcome to Rederick.Art Founded by a STEM educator and conservationist, our project lives at the intersection of biological science, traditional printmaking, and ecological restoration. We craft 100% handmade, zero-waste plantable seed paper art designed to restore local habitats and bring color to everyday spaces.

Rooted in Wisdom, Land, and Community

Honoring Indigenous Wisdom & The Land

Our journey has taken us through changing landscapes over the years, but we have always lived, worked, and grown on historical Indigenous lands. We are constantly learning, drawing continued wisdom from Indigenous peoples whose deep understanding of the earth is second to none. In our work, we look to the guidance and knowledge of those over 60, honoring their lived experience as a compass for how we steward the soil and build community.

From Washington Roots to North Dakota Soil

Rederick.art grew out of deep roots in Washington state and has expanded across the Great Plains. Today, we proudly craft, design, and package our products in Emmons County, North Dakota—spanning the vibrant communities of Linton and Braddock.

Our very first garden still thrives in my mom’s yard, complete with the original flower pots, compost piles, flower beds, and clover patches where this passion began. Over the decades, we’ve used our seeds and gardening skills to enrich soils across Washington, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and beyond—maybe even in a neighborhood near you.

Crafted with Historic Letterpress Equipment

Our plantable art gets its distinct, tactile feel from traditional handset letterpress type. We are deeply grateful to the South Central Threshing Association’s Braddock News Museum for providing our letterpress equipment, and to the "Iron Men and Women" whose dedication has kept this historic organization thriving for over 50 years.

A Collective Effort: Partnerships & Growth

Creating a new category of art—Plantable Art—takes a community. We are constantly learning from the experts, organizations, local families, and fellow gardeners who help this project grow.

  • Scientific & Agricultural Research: We work with organic, certified, and reliable seed growers to ensure our plantable art succeeds in every shape and mix we experiment with. Our growth is supported by a plantable art study at the University of Minnesota West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) Horticulture Garden. We also draw trusted guidance from the NRCS Plant Materials Science Center and local NDSU Extension agents. New Collaborate Alert out of Fargo, ND https://dirtdiving.com

  • Local Sustainability: Local families help elevate our work by supplying high-quality recycled paper, allowing us to turn waste into a canvas for native wildflowers.

  • Grant Funding & Regional Support: Expansion of our work has been made possible through customer support across multiple states, grants from StrengthenND, and our partnership with Pride of Dakota.

Where to Find Us & Supporting Small Retailers

While we love market stalls, we are actively expanding our retail footprint into local gift shops, bookstores, garden centers, and galleries. Shout-out to the partners who have welcomed us onto their shelves so far:

  • Pride of Dakota Shows

  • ND Council on the Arts

  • BDAC Art Gallery (Bismarck, ND)

  • BAGA Art Gallery (Bismarck, ND)

  • Jamestown Arts Center (Jamestown, ND)

  • Novel Exchange (Bismarck, ND)

  • Williston Visitors Center (Williston, ND)
